10 Productive Work Goals To Achieve This Summer

Because of the pandemic, what’s supposed to be a time for a well-deserved, out-of-town vacation is going to be spent at home where it's safe for us and our families.  But who said you can't still have fun?

Whether it's simply starting your workday on time or conducting a personal annual review, there’s always a way to maximize this time to advance your career. Here are 10 work goals you can set for yourself to get ahead of the game:

1. Declutter your inbox

Declutter your inbox

E-mail anxiety is real. Make the most out of a slow day and take simple action steps to organize your inbox. Delete or archive old emails. Unsubscribe from newsletters you’ve been consistently ignoring. Or create a minimalist folder system that allows you to have a healthier relationship with your emails.

2. Organize your computer files

Organize your computer files

If you constantly find yourself rummaging through your files, maybe it’s time to also manage your digital documents. Categorize your files strategically. Go through each of them and ask yourself the magic five-year question: “Is this file still useful five years from now?” And from there, decide if you’ll keep it or trash it.

3. Sign up for a certification course

Enhance your skills and find a course that’s relevant to what you’re doing now. We’ve always been encouraged to develop new skills, but mastering your proficiencies is also something worth aiming for.

4. Design your dream workstation

There’s something about a clean, polished area that pushes you to be more productive. Imagine feeling pumped to work every day simply because you love the vibe of your dream workstation.

5. Develop a healthy workday routine

Develop a healthy workday routine

Forming a healthy habit doesn’t entirely mean you need to workout every day (although doing so isn’t bad, either). Clock in on time. Commit to your 3PM stretches. Set out-of-work boundaries. Having a healthy habit that suits your needs protects your physical and mental health.

6. Set up an online portfolio

Set up an online portfolio

Online portfolios are no longer exclusive to certain fields. Nowadays, it allows professionals from all industries to showcase their work and share their expertise with others. It can also do what resumés can’t do: build you a strong online presence and show more of your creativity and personality.

7. Start the project you’ve been putting off for so long

Start the project you’ve been putting off for so long

Summer gives us the leeway to explore and experiment on our passions. If you have been wanting to start a work project, create an effective plan and discuss it with your boss. Now is the best time to make your ideas come to fruition.

8. Cultivate stronger professional relationships with your colleagues

Cultivate stronger professional relationships with your colleagues

The pandemic taught us that connections don’t end even if you’re miles apart. This summer, take time to get to know your teammates a little bit better. Ask for their help. Invite them to work with you on your new project. And most importantly, learn from them.

9. Plan an after-office activity for your team

There are a lot of virtual office activities that can level up your WFH setup. It’s important to carve out time for team fun and just take a moment to personally get to know each other.

10. Take a break

Being productive doesn’t always mean that you need to hustle and grind 24/7. Sometimes, it takes a solid break for you to power up your mind and work smarter.
